Fangoria // Magazine Illustrations

While VP of Creative at FANGORIA my main focus was on social and marketing for the magazine, website, movies and podcast network. I had the pleasure of doing illustrations for the print magazine (issues 6-8). Below are the final results with some pictures of the process.

FANGORIA issue 8 / vol 2

Issue 8 of FANGORIA was a retrospective issue and the EIC had writer/director Edgar Wright interview legendary horror creator John Carpenter for the 40th anniversary of THE FOG. It then spun off into a discussion about the apocalypse and their movies which became a secondary article with a complimentary illustration.

The illustrations consisted of line drawings I did by hand which I then compiled in photoshop where I color blocked different parts with some shading and halftone patterns to add depths and texture. In addition to the illustrations I also hand drew the type to match the hand drawing feel of the illustrations.

In addition to the main illustrations I also created illustrated drop caps.

FANGORIA issue 7 / vol 2

The author of this piece wrote about how watching horror movies helped cope with her illness.
For the illustration I referenced different body-horror movies and draw a bunch of different pieces which I then compiled them into a big line-art collage. I wanted to play with the typography and skewed the text to give it an uneasy feeling, almost like the font itself was sick.

FANGORIA issue 6 / vol 2

The premise behind the article was how people have infatuations with bad people whether they are from real life or culture. The concept for the illustration to mimic the romance comics in the 50’s.
